Macho Men
This selection brings together several of Don Hickey’s many photographs of men and boys in public settings from the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s. Hickey was finely attuned to posture and gesture, and his photographs suggest a wider conversation about the construction of masculinity. How did the ways men and boys observed their peers inform the ways they presented themselves to the world and to the camera? A book project with the working title Don Hickey’s Macho Men is under development.
